Ruby 31st July 2021

When I left Kings Libraries, Anna gave me a perfectly square, turquoise pouch that fastened with two yellow buttons she had knitted. It fitted exactly around a perfectly square bar of chocolate. My favourite part of this gift was the spare button she included. This is an example of one of my favourite things about Anna: everything she did was deliberate. There was nothing haphazard or careless about her. Even when she didn't approve of something, she did her bit of it well. After I left we kept in contact, mostly via letter. I'm not quite ready to re-read her letters yet. But I enjoyed reading about Anna's world through her eyes, I like the the things she noticed. When I wrote to her I could say things that other people wouldn't appreciate the way Anna did. I was surprised and very pleased when she agreed to come and visit me in France once I moved in, and I'm so sad you'll never see this place Anna, I think you'd like it. I was chuffed to be a friend of Anna Mills. Love, Ruby
